Guest Post: [Socially-Responsible] Gift Guide for Her | Beauty Editon

Hello! So excited to be guest posting for Rose and the Beauty Bar Daily! Rose has such a great blog and I love that she is so into helping others and giving back (this is hard to find in most bloggers today so you better hold on to her) (this is also why I agreed to guest post!)! c;

In fact, the season of giving back is upon us (happy holidays!), and with it the joys of gift-giving! Beauty products are always a popular choice to gift, as they are so easy to give, you can find them almost everywhere, and they can work with almost every budget!

But unfortunately, most beauty products are from stores on the Boycott List and are very harmful to people, the environment, or are tested on animals (which is not so hot). Soo0o, as an activist, I thought it would be important to put together a gift guide of my own--one of products that are not only not tested on animals or environmentally destructive, but are also healthy and support wonderful causes!

So, I present to you, a [Socially-Responsible] Gift Guide of beauty products! (Oh and disclaimer, I personally don't wear makeup but I know a socially-responsible brand when I see one!) c;

Below are beauty products that are not only made from crushed strawberries (yum!) and hibiscus flowers or infused with coconut water, but also support anti-trafficking organizations or advocate for animal rights! How awesome is that!?

1. Pacifica Persian Rose Solid Perfume (As Persian myself, I endorse this scent) c;

Hope you all enjoyed this! You can also check out this posts sister, the [Socially-Responsible] Gift Guide for Her on my blog, JooJoo Azad ~ Free Bird

Have a lovely Tuesday everyone! xx

Guest Blog: Untitled #73 by alifeinthefashionlane featuring Print Shirts

Untitled #73

For many of us, the holidays are a time to spend with family at home with a cup of cocoa and the Christmas Tree in the corner. For the few lucky ones that are off on a new adventure, they are faced with packing for their travels during the holiday season. Even though the easiest way out is to throw on a pair of sweats, Ugg boots, and a hoodie, you can still be comfortable and chic with this travel outfit above.

To embrace holiday spirit, opt for the red pants with a cute plaid combat boot, both comfortable and stylish. If you're a more edgy girl, the knit beanie will have your head warm during long waits in the airport, but also gives you major attention for having a statement piece. Graphic hoodies are quite big in the fashion scene right now as well, so this knitted piece is versatile and a great addition to any wardrobe.

I hope you enjoyed this guest blog as much as I did!

Top 3 Waterline Eye Pencils

Hi everyone!

I wanted to share my top picks for a great waterline eye pencil. I own a few and have put them to the test. I came up with the top three that really work for me. The pencils do not smudge, smear or flake.

When you have a long day at work or a fun night out, you do not want to worry about your eyeliner. I really like to have a nude, black and one colored pencil in my collection. They are all needed and come in handy!

Here are my top 3:
  1. Rimmel Scandaleyes in Nude
  2. Jordana 12 HR Made To Last Liquid Eyeliner Pencil in Black
  3. em (Michelle Phan) Waterliner in Emerald
All three pencils glide on, so there is no tugging. The nude gives your eyes a 'bright-eyed and bushy tailed' effect. If you didn't get enough sleep last night, throw a little on and you will look awake and ready! The Jordana and em pencils are great for both your waterline and lid. The Jordana eye pencil in black isn't going anywhere, I love that it's a true black. If you want to make your eyes pop a little, I love adding a boost of color to a neutral eye. The em pencil is perfect for that, the emerald is a really pretty green and it comes with a smudger. This pencil gives you more time to smudge/smoke it then the other two.

Please take note, that the Rimmel and Jordana pencils do come in different colors if you like those formulas better. Both of these pencils are under $5 and they are easy to sharpen. The em pencil is a little pricey at $20 but it does come in the convenient twist up packaging.

I really appreciate each and every one of you who read my blog and take time to comment and/or share. Thank you so much!

Fashion Friday: Black on Black | $50 & Under!

Photo Credit: Forever 21 & Windsors.

Hi everyone and Happy FriYAY!

I personally like wearing all black, so the look I put together is inspired by what I want in my closet!  Black is a staple color to me and even more so in the colder months. I like pieces that are comfortable but look put together. A lot of jobs in certain industries or at certain schools require their staff or students to wear black, so here's an idea for you as well.

When wearing black, I like the look of mixed fabrics. For example, I love the faux leather mixed with the cotton/nylon above. I feel that this instantly dresses up your look. Also, floppy hats add even more style, of course you can pass on the hat if that's too much for you. I like the chunky necklace but you can also wear a statement necklace to add a pop of color.

Photo Credit: Windsors (Front of tunic)
I really love the detailing/piping on this tunic, I also love the slits on the side. When wearing leggings, it's always important that your top covers ALL!

What was used to create this amazing look, you ask!
I hope you enjoyed this look!!

Skin & Hair Care with Divina Latina

*Disclosure: This is a compensated campaign in collaboration with Unilever and Latina Bloggers Connect. All opinions are my own.

Hi everyone!

Due to the weather change, our skin and hair care routines often need to be adjusted. I love trying out new products, obviously! I also think it's nice to switch things up from time to time like you would do with a shampoo and conditioner. I am constantly researching new products to try for my skin and hair. I have naturally curly hair that needs to be tamed, I often like to wear it straight but when I don't - I need a product to tame the frizz. The weather really takes part in if  I will have a good or bad hair day!

I am excited to try products like this one:

 Overview from CVS website:
  • Controls frizz
  • Adds smoothness and shine
  • Infused with keratin
  • Leaves hair more manageable
  • Safe for color-treated hair

I used one and half pumps for my long/thick hair and I really liked that it wasn't overly oily and it smelled good! I am a fan of their hair spray as well.

My skin gets a little dry due the weather and I like to try different moisturizers with anti-aging properties. I personally think you can start using anti-wrinkle creams in your twenties to prevent any fine lines. I also think drugstore purchased items can work as well or sometimes better than department store products.

I am currently trying out this product:

Overview from CVS website:

Firms Skin
Visibly reduces the appearance of fine lines in 2 weeks.
  • With AHAs & Collagen
  • Dermatologist tested
  • Hypoallergenic
  • Won't clog pores

I've always liked the scent of Pond's cream and this is a product that I am sharing with my mom. We are trying another cream as well to see which one works the best. We really like how our skin feels after this one though. I will post an update in the near future.

I’m excited about the Divina Latina products now available at CVS/pharmacy, they are eligible for ExtraBucks. I wrote about this in my money saving tips post. For every $50 you spend on beauty products, you receive $5 to spend at CVS! I love this perk and it's really come in handy for me, CVS was doing $10 for the month of November, so you still have time for that as well. HURRY!

Join me in being Red Carpet Ready with Divina Latina!

What product would you like to try?

Wish List Wednesday | Beauty Edition

Hi everyone!

As the holidays approach, I thought it would be fun to share a few wish lists. I'm going to start with the above, I think this will give you great ideas of what to get a beauty lover! Also, remember I created a post on ways to save, click here to read it!

1. Clarisonic Mia2 - It's a skin cleansing device and it's just wonderful! It deep cleans your skin to remove all of the unwanted dirt/oils from your face/pores. It will also help with texture issues and you can use it with your favorite cleanser.

From the Sephora website:

What it does:
Effortless and compact, Mia2 is the convenient choice for clean, beautiful skin. It cleanses skin six times better than your hands alone and uses patented sonic technology that oscillates at 300 movements per second to gently lift impurities. The sonic method is calm enough to use twice daily on all skin types including very sensitive skin. It leaves skin softer, smoother, and more radiant each day.

2. The Tarte of Giving Collector's Set & Travel Bag - I think cosmetic sets are perfect as a gift. They allow you to try a few things from the brand at a much better cost than buying individually. Sure, the sizes are probably relatively smaller but  it's great to sample something new. I love the purple travel bag that comes with this set. Tarte is known for amazing blushes and their formula altogether, so this gift set is perfect. The eye palette is pretty neutral, so it's a safe, yet amazing gift! Gimme!

From the Sephora website:

What it does:
Make your own holiday memories with this chic travel bag overflowing with all your must-have beauty essentials. Inspired by the Tarte family and their favorite gifts over the years, this exclusive, rich collection features a host of limited-edition shades that are reminiscent of holidays past, as well as some of the bestselling and most iconic Tarte products. The set includes everything needed to create endless looks and timeless memories.

3. Kat Von D Spellbinding Look Kit - Again, sets are where it's at this holiday season, at least for me anyway! I love how this particular set screams Fall. The shades are rich and beautiful. I love the packaging for Kat Von D cosmetics. This is a nice set to test out a few things from the line.

From the Sephora website:

What it does:
The True Romance Eye Shadow Palette is a perfect mix of neutral nudes, browns, and purple highlights. These rich, long-lasting pigments are designed to blend and layer harmoniously for a variety of looks. The Sin-Full mascara strengthens every lash strand for unsurpassed volume and curl while conditioning and improving lash health. Foiled Love gives lips the look of being wrapped in colored metallic foil. The rich burst of metallic pigment is also formulated with natural moisturizers and has anti-aging properties to keep lips healthy. The Autograph Eyeliner is formulated to glide on smoothly and dry down for up to eight hours of wear that is water resistant and won’t fade, melt, or run.

4. Sigma Premium Kit - This brush set is great for the aspiring makeup artist or the established artist. I hear non-stop rave reviews regarding the quality and that makes me want to own this set even more. There's a few other sets on the website but this one seems to be a great deal! I really would love this to be apart of my collection.

From the Sigma website:

The Sigma Beauty Premium Kit contains fifteen signature quality brushes for the face, eyes and lips. These brushes are unique, versatile and the perfect addition to complete your brush collection.

Let me know the top 3 items you are wishing for in the comments below!

I really appreciate each and every one of you who read my blog and take time to comment and/or share. Thank you so much!

Thanksgiving Outfit Ideas | Chic Comfort & Under $80!

Whether you have somewhere to go or you are making it a stay-at-home family day, I've put together a few looks focused on comfort. We all want to wear our most comfortable clothing for the food fest but that doesn't mean we can do it in style! It's a nice day to appreciate what is around you, although that should be all year - we get a chance to spend time with the people that mean the most to us. I digress, while we are being the "Hostess with the Mostess" or a special guest, these outfit ideas are perfect!

If you aren't a heel girl, you can easily replace them with a wedge or flats. I must say I really love the cute retro heel in a very Fall-like color scheme. I really love these pieces and I like the mixture of prints, lace, polka dots, studs, and a little retro. I also wanted to select items that you could wear often and not just on a special occasion.

LORAC Rockin' Red Hot Pro Set Review + Swatches

I've been wanting to add the LORAC Pro palette to my collection for a while now. I am so happy that I waited because I got an amazing deal purchasing the Rockin' Red Hot set. It was under $40 and I added a 10% coupon. Usually, the palette alone is $46 + tax. The set comes with the LORAC Pro palette, Behind the Scenes Eye Primer and Front of the Line Pro (liquid) Eye Liner. I really like that they came out with this set so early, it would make a gift for the beauty lover in your life.

The shades are pigmented and you receive 8 mattes (top row) and 8 shimmers (bottom row). There's amazing color payoff and you can create a lot of looks with the shades. The shadows are soft and glide on. I didn't get much fall out either, so that's always a plus. The cons, in case you decide to purchase the palette, are that some of the shadows appear a little powdery and the black is not as blendable as it could be. Overall, the palette is a must to have though, I would repurchase!

The primer feels really hydrating on my eyelids and keeps the shadow from creasing. It has a silky texture and blends easily. A little goes a long way with this formula. I also liked the water resistant black liquid eye liner, it has a nice felt tip and a slight sheen to it. The tip is quite thin, so it's easy to create a winged out look. The eye liner lasted all day, it didn't smudge at all.  You can lay it across your lid for a thicker line or use as is for a thin line. It really glides on and I think I found a new favorite!

Sleek Makeup Blush in Rose Gold Review + Photos

Sleek Makeup has a blusher that is said to be a close dupe to NARS Orgasm. The shade is called Rose Gold and it is amazingly pigmented. The Sleek formula has a lot more shimmer than NARS Orgasm. The price point is phenomenal as well, at $8. I personally wouldn't call it a dupe though, Rose Gold is very unique and I only see that the packaging and pigmentation are similar.

The shade is a peachy-pink gold with gold speckles of shimmer. Rose Gold is not to be applied with a heavy hand as it's very pigmented and you could end up having a hard time trying to blend it out. It gives an incredible glow to the cheeks and brightens up your face.

I think the shade would be great for most skin tones. I really like the packaging, it is very NARS and 'sleek' - {pun intended}. The formula is soft to the touch and although pigmented, the formula is finely milled- which equals a glowy, luminous sheen.

I can't wait to try more from Sleek Makeup, I was really impressed with their formula and price point for such quality. I wouldn't recommend this shade for anyone that doesn't like iridescent formulas, bolder blushes or shimmer. Also, you can purchase the products exclusively from Sleek Makeup online.

If you have any questions/comments, feel free to leave them below. I really appreciate each and every one of you who read my blog and take time to comment and/or share. Thank you so much!

What I'm Lovin' Wednesday | 5 Under $5 Edition

Hi everyone and happy Wednesday

This week I challenged myself to make a list of five items that I've been really enjoying and would repurchase, if needed. {Which is hard enough} and I wanted them to be under $5! The products mentioned luckily made this challenge easy for me.

Here are the products from left to right...

1.      Q-tips: Precision Tips - These are an all around must... I can think of a lot of uses for the Precision Tips outside of cosmetics; cleaning tiny areas, cleaning up your nail polish, spot treat problem areas on your face,  etc. The name says it all, if I need to clean up my makeup; these always come to the rescue!

2.      Essence Gel Eyeliner - This formula is just amazing and it's very black with no shimmer. It will not budge and has a mousse like texture to me that makes this liner easy to apply. The only down side is that they only make this liner in black, they call it "Midnight in Paris." Other than that, it's the perfect gel liner formula for under $5! Most eyeliners do smudge on me, I've never had an issue with this one.

3.      St. Ives Timeless Skin: Collagen Elastin Moisturizer - (Quite the long name...)  I like to moisturize with this after I cleanse my face. The package reads: Visibly Reduces Appearance of Fine Lines & Wrinkles. You can apply this to your face and neck area and I really love the light texture of it. It has a scent but nothing too strong or off putting. My face feels really smooth and hydrated after I apply this and my mom likes this as well! I do not have a ton of fine lines but I do see a difference in my faces texture and this is a staple in my skincare routine.

4.      NYX Butter Lip Balm- I love having these in my purse, the perfect amount of tint and they are moisturizing. These are great for when you want a break from the vampy lips and just want a laid back every day tint. I absolutely love that they come in different shades and I love the scent. I basically want all of them!

5.       E.L.F. Studio Small Stipple Brush - I wish I could remember where I saw this brush being reviewed for cream blush and highlighter (If I remember, I will add the link to the comments below). Anyway, I picked this up for $3 and the bristles are short and stiff enough to apply the perfect amount of cream blush and highlighter. This brush would be great for everyone to have in their collection- especially if you feel that you have a heavy hand with the darker shades or cream blushes in general.

If you have any questions/comments, feel free to leave them below. I really appreciate each and every one of you who read my blog and take time to comment and/or share. Thank you so much!

Feel free to share something that I haven't mentioned! Sharing is a wonderful thing!

Interview with Colette from It's Always Summer | Part 2: Organic Airbrush Tanning

Hi Everyone! Here's Part 2 of the two part interview with Colette from It's Always Summer!

Since the weather has cooled down substantially, it's a bit harder to catch some sun rays- especially for a nice tan. The holidays are coming up and I know a few of you (if not, many!) would love an alternative to baking in the sun. We all know that spending hours in the sun is not the best for your skin, so Colette answered a few questions regarding Organic Spray Tanning.

Before & After / Photo Credit: Colette

How Does Airbrush Tanning work?
The active ingredient in all spray tan solution is dihydroxyacetone (DHA), a colorless sugar that darkens the skin through staining. DHA reacts with the amino acids (keratin proteins) in the outermost layer of your skin. As these dead skin cells naturally wear off, the color gradually fades, just like a genuine sun tan.

The solution I use also includes a bronzer which allows me to see where the solution has been placed and make sure that you are covered evenly.  This bronzer will rinse off when you shower.

How Long Does The Airbrushing Process Take?
The process takes about 20 minutes, sometimes longer if we get to chatting. This includes a brief discussion of what to expect, the do’s and don’ts after you leave, prep time, the spray itself, and also dry time.

How Long Does The Tan Last?
Your airbrush tan will last between five and twelve days depending on how you prep and care for your skin afterwards.  If you exfoliate really well before your tan as well as moisturize really well after your tan, you tan will last longer. Taking long hot baths or showers, prolonged exposure to chlorine, and waxing or shaving, will speed up the exfoliation process and shorten the life of your tan.

What Do I Wear For My Airbrush Tanning Session?
For women, you may wear as much as you or nothing at all.  Most women opt to wear some sort of bottom and go topless but it is totally up to what you feel comfortable in. I have disposable G-string underwear that I am happy to give you to wear during your session.  If you are a man, I require that you wear something such as a bathing suit, underwear or Speedo.

Is Airbrush Tanning Safe?
The active ingredient, DHA (dihydroxyacetone), was approved by the FDA in 1973. DHA is derived from raw sugar cane and is the only active ingredient approved by the FDA for sunless tanning products. DHA has been used safely over the years in numerous sunless tanning products, such as creams and lotions.

Before & After / Photo Credit: Colette

Before and After Prep Sheet
Preparing your skin for your airbrush tan is very important, and can mean a difference between a good and a bad spray tan. The longevity of a sunless tan depends on the tanning product that is used, the skin's natural exfoliation process, and on the skincare regimen followed before and after application. Here are some tips to help your tan last and look it’s best.

BEFORE YOUR AIRBRUSH TAN
Exfoliate, Shower, and Wax/Shave.
Exfoliate your skin before getting the tan. This can be done with a loofah sponge or an exfoliating body scrub. The spray tanning solution affects only dead skin cells. Your skin has a build-up of dead skin cells on top of it. The thicker the layer, the sooner it will rub off. If you exfoliate, the layer will be very shallow, and it will take a while for it to “build up”, and your tan will last longer.

Do not wear any lotions, deodorant, moisturizer or makeup.
These can all act as a barrier to the tanning solution and can result in a tan that is spotted, splotchy, or uneven.

AFTER YOUR AIRBRUSH TAN
Wear something that is dark and loose
Some of the solution will rub off onto your clothing, sheets, etc., but don’t worry, it is not permanent and will wash out. Just please don’t wear or sleep in anything that if it got a spot on it, you would be upset.  Wearing tight clothing such as jeans, a tight shirt, socks, etc. immediately after can wipe the solution off before it can set in.

Do not sweat, swim, shower, bathe, etc. for at least 8 hours after getting the tan.
The solution needs at least 8 hours to set in the skin. Once you do shower, feel free to use a soft washcloth to lightly rub off excess solution. The color you may see washing off is NOT your tan, it is simply the bronzer color added to the solution.

Limit shaving, exfoliating, etc. as much as possible.
Shaving over the spray tan can shorten the life of the tan by days because it can remove part of the top layer of skin. Please shave before your appointment.

Moisturize
Your tan will last longer on moisturized skin, however, do not apply moisturizer until after you shower. High quality lotion is recommended, but many over-the-counter lotions will work just as well.  I sell a great lotion that is made by the same company that I get my solution from and it also has a little bit of DHA in it which will help your tan last even longer.  Let me know if you would like a sample!

Use SPF!
Your airbrush tan will NOT protect you from the sun so please remember to wear your sunscreen.

If you're in the area, please contact Colette for additional information or to make an appointment! You can also visit her website below.

A huge thank you to Colette for taking the time to go over two very interesting topics. Make sure you read Part 1.
