Drugstore Must-Have Beauty Buys | August

Hello beauties and beaus!

I have been using a few drugstore products that are just amazing and gentle on the wallet.

  • Garnier Skin Renew Daily Moisturizer/Anti-Sun-Damaging, $12.99 - I use this as a daily moisturizer and sun screen. It has a fresh scent and it's not greasy at all. I use it on my face, neck, chest, arms and hands. It also has Broad Spectrum SPF 28 and can even out your skin due to sun damage. Priced accordingly!
  • Maybelline Great Lash in Clear, $5.49 -  You can use this on your lashes and your eyebrows. I use it as an eyebrow gel and it keeps my eyebrows looking groomed and maintained. If you want to use this on your lashes, the formula contains B5 to nourish them. In my opinion, it works as good as a higher end gel. If you fill your eyebrows in, this will give you the final flawless touch. This has a eyebrow gel scent, not overwhelming at all though.
  • E.L.F. Eye Primer and Liner Sealer, $3.00 - Your eyeshadow will not crease with this primer. When applied, there is very minimal tugging. If you apply it to your hand to test, it's smooth. There's not really a scent to it at all. The Liner Sealer turns your eyeshadow into a "liquid" and will not budge. The felt tip application to the liner side is a tad stiff but it works. I pat the felt tip close to where I want my eyeliner and then I take a liner brush with my eyeshadow of choice and it transforms. I would say you have to work quickly before the product dries.

The top is the eyeshadow in gray by itself and the bottom swatch shows the eyeshadow with the Liner Sealer:
  • E.L.F Daily Moisture Stick, $6.00 - This moisture stick is convenient if you're on-the-go and your skin is feeling dry or in my case, I use it after I apply my face masks. It's slightly sticky but does absorb into the skin well. It feels cool and soothing when applied. It goes on clear and has a scentless "scent" to it. I like that the formula contains antioxidants and anti-aging ingredients: Grape, Cocoa, Shea, Avocado, Macadamia, Aloe and Chamomile.

  • Milani Eye Tech Extreme Liquid Eye Liner, $7.49 - This has been a favorite of mine for a long time now. The liner has the perfect felt tip and you can even pat it side ways across your eyelid. You'll be able to create the perfect winged out or cat eye look with ease. It's true black, Paraben Free and waterproof.
  • Physician's Formula Super BB Powder, $13.95 - I really love this powder. I usually wear it alone over Garnier sunscreen (mentioned above) on days that I do not want to wear a "full face." It has a decent amount of coverage and has a slight shimmer to it which gives you a warm glow. I have it in the shade, light/medium - if you have very fair skin, this looks like it would be too dark for you. I would recommend that they create more shades to suit all skin tones. I apply it with a big powder brush and it does seem to hit pan rather quickly but I would repurchase over and over.
  • NYC In a New York Minute Quick Dry Nail Polish, $1.99 - Sometimes you are in a rush and of course you want your nails to look manicured...the quick fix is this nail polish! I tend to use "Prospect Park Pink" (has a peachy tone) a lot and if I am really in a hurry, one coat is fine. It's opaque enough and just a very pretty pink. I have tried other colors and they all work great. They really do dry fast and it's extremely convenient when there's no time for an at home manicure/pedicure or the nail shop.
  • Lip Smacker Dr. Pepper, $2.29 - I've been purchasing Lip Smackers for a while now. This one stands out because it's super moisturizing and gives a "your-lips-but-better" effect. If you over apply, it will come off easily but for the price, totally worth it. I also wanted to mention that it has the same Lip Smacker taste which is kind of waxy but the positives overshadow the negative with this one.
I swatched the Lip Smacker to show the light tint and I applied it three times on my lips to show the color payoff:

Friday Beauty Favorites and Dupes!!!

Happy Friday beauties and beaus!

I wanted to share my Friday favorites and would love for you to comment on what else I should try!

Let's get right into the products...

1. FX Formula 10 Leave-in Mist is a fantastic dupe to "It's a 10 Leave-in Conditioner" ($4.47 - prices may vary) - It's the ten in one mist that does everything for your hair. Moisturizes and Conditions, Adds Shine, Prevents Breakage from Brushing, Brightens Hair Color, Provides Thermal Heat Protection, Controls Frizz,  Detangles, Creates Silky Softness, Adds Volume and Body, and Seals Cuticle. So here's the other wonderful fact about it, you can get it for under $5! That's more than half of the price for the leading brand. I usually spray it in my hair with other products I use before I apply any heat to my hair. I've gotten compliments on how healthy my hair looks!

2. Garnier Skin Renew BB Cream ($11.97 - prices may vary) - I believe the term BB cream is used very loosely now. While some of the BB Creams I've tried are mainly a tinted moisturizer, this one is close to a foundation consistency. I really like the coverage and how it hydrates my skin. I think this is a great on-the-go cream as well because it gives you a put together look in a few minutes. The formula is buildable to a medium coverage foundation. It also had Broad Spectrum SPF 15 in it, always a plus to protect your skin. I use the shade Light/Medium and I would say it's a match. I also use a primer underneath and sometimes if I'm going to have a long day, I'll set it with a light coat of powder. I chose this one because it's more skincare meets beauty. It's for anti-aging and firming. There are other formulas for oily skin, combo, etc.

3. Essie polish in Smokin' Hot ($5.68 - prices may vary) - I love the purplish gray color! I know this is going to be my go-to for Fall. It's not too dark but it goes with everything. Check it out!

4. MAC blush in Melba ($21.00) - This peachy-pink blush should be a staple in your collection. It really is the perfect go-to color for a daily natural, pretty flushed look. It's also very pigmented with no shimmer. Depending on your skin tone it could tend to look a little orange, so I would test it out before purchasing.

5. Rimmel London Scandaleyes Waterproof in Nude  ($4.49 - prices may vary) - How do you fake you had more hours of sleep than you actually did? You line your waterline with this perfect nude pencil. It really gives your eyes a pick me up and opens them up. The texture is smooth, so there's no tugging on your eye and it stays put. These pencils give Urban Decay a run for their money. They really do stand up to the Urban Decay 24/7 glide on pencil for a smaller investment.

6. Revlon Lash Potion by Grow Luscious Volume + Length Mascara ($5.00 - prices may vary) - I will have to admit that when I first tried this mascara, I wasn't impressed. After a very short period of time, I let the formula dry a little and I tried it again and I was obsessed! After two coats you have amazing baby doll lashes and I love going for a third coat. It's easy to wash off and long lasting. I do not have thick or long lashes, so I would say this does it's job. It comes with a large, full wand brush. I also thought the price point was excellent and you gotta love the gorgeous packaging!

7. MAC matte lipstick in Heroine ($15.00) - I really dislike that this is not easy to find but I just received it and it is easily one of my favorites in my collection. It's described as a "bright violet/purple" and it's just beautiful. It's matte but not drying at all, I usually add a light layer of any lip balm underneath my matte lipsticks. It does not tug on your lips when you are applying due to the creamy consistency. The lipstick also leaves a lip stain, so I would consider that a plus.

8. Maybelline Baby Lips in Strike a Rose (2.97 - prices may vary) - I have a few of these and I love them. I like the pop of color this one adds and they really hydrate your lips. The color is a sheer cool pinkish tone, but slightly buildable. They do not tug on the lips, they glide smoothly. They have a fruity scent, which I love. They are perfect for everyday, on the go use. I always have a couple in my bag.

6 Fall Must Haves to Bookmark!

With Fall hot on our heels and back to school season, we sometimes forget to get a few essentials. I put together a few items that you may want to try out or restock on! Most of them are lip products because sometimes we tend to neglect really keeping our lips smooth and hydrated for the season.
  1. Rosebud Perfume Co. - Minted Rose
  2. Urban Decay Revolution Lipstick
  3. Lush Bubble Lip Scrub
  4. Origins Drink Up Intensive Overnight mask to quench skins thirst
  5. Maybelline Baby Lips Electro Lip Balm
  6. Benefit Hoola Bronzer
The lip products listed above range from a personal spa day, going to school, or to being out and about. They are all moisturizing and have lasting benefits. The Origins mask hydrates like no other and just absorbs into the skin over night. I added the Hoola bronzer because who doesn't want a year round "tan" and glow!? You can also use it to contour all over your face. Also, you can dust the bronzer on your cheekbones and tap your favorite Fall blush to the apples of your cheeks and voilà!

Smashbox Photo Finish Foundation Primer

Hello my beauties!

I have been using an amazing product and thought it was time to share my little beauty secret...

I've wanted to try the Smashbox Photo Finish Foundation Primer for a while. I finally came across a couple of samples to try before I buy. With the first use I could tell we were going to become great friends! The texture of the primer is so light, silky and smooth that you forget you are applying anything to your face.

I am hesitant to try any primer because I dread having that "mask" feeling. I was elated that this product felt light and weightless. I also like that the Smashbox primer comes in a few formulas for different skin concerns. When I use the primer, my makeup lasted for hours and even my blush was on at the end of my day. I have combo normal/oily t-zone skin.

This is the card that came with the sample:

To sum up a few of the benefits:
  • Smooth and soft skin
  • Makeup looks smoother with this primer as a base
  • Helps makeup adhere to your face
  • Feels light and not like a mask
  • Matte finish
  • Minimizes pores
  • Blurs fine lines
  • You can wear it alone
Depending on which primer you choose from Smashbox, it could help with:
  • Rosacea (redness)
  • Fades dark spots
  • Banishes blemishes
  • Evens skin tone
  • Defies age
  • Hydrates
  • Adds radiance
  • Refreshes oily/sensitive skin

Michael Todd Pumpkin Facial Mask Review

I hope everyone had a great day/night!

I received a sample of the Michael Todd Pumpkin Facial Mask via a box subscription. I was excited that I received this to try out because I wanted to purchase a full size prior.

I'm a fan of the color purple, so I would give the packaging an A+. I have been using the product for about a month (once a week). I cleanse my face and I leave the mask on for 10 minutes. The mask does sting for a short period of time and then it stops, I'm sure this is the glycolic acid working it's magic. I then follow it with a moisturizer as the directions suggest. If you are going out after using the mask, the directions state to put on sunscreen due to the glycolic acid that could cause sun sensitivity.

So let's get down to some facts!

-The tube reads; "For all skin types except sensitive"

This is probably due to the acid and the stinging. After you wash the mask off, there could be slight irritation and that's why they tell you to moisturize or to apply sunscreen. My skin is slightly sensitive and I've had no problems with irritation after washing it off.

-If you're a pumpkin lover, you will LOVE this mask. It's like putting a can of Libby's pumpkin puree on your face! It smells exactly like it and the texture is a little griddy. A little goes a long way! It makes me think of Fall and all of the seasonal pumpkin coffee selections. Hurry up Fall! :)

- My face always feels amazingly clean after.

-It's Organic

-Here is what is said about the stinging (they say "tingle") on the site:

That tingle is the pumpkin enzyme combining with glycolic acid to go to town on your skin’s flaws dissolving impurities like dead skin and clogged pores. Adds brightness and radiance to the skin and significantly improves the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles after a single use.

I feel that this statement is true and not at all stretched. Again, my face has never felt cleaner!

-Ingredients (taken from the site):

Cucurbita Pepo (Pumpkin), Vaccinium Myrtillus (Bilberry) Fruit Extract, Saccharum Officinarum (Sugar Cane) Extract, Acer Saccharinum (Sugar Maple) Extract, Citrus Aurantium Dulcis (Orange) Fruit Extract, Citrus Medica Limonum (Lemon) Extract, Aloe Barbadensis (Organic Aloe) Juice, Vegetable Glycerin, Glycolic Acid, Sodium Benzoate, Glucolactone, Tocopherol (Vitamin E), Phenoxyethanol, Limnanthes Alba (Meadowfoam) Oil, Xanthan Gum (Polysaccharide Gum), Ascorbyl Palmitate (Vitamin C), Cinnamomum Cassia (Cinnamon) Bark, Zingiber Officinale (Ginger) Root Powder, Euterpe Oleracea (Acai Fruit) Pulp Powder, Myristica Fragrans (Nutmeg) Powder, Pimenta Officinalis (Allspice) Powder, Rosmarinus Officnalis (Rosemary Oleoresin), Azadirachta Indica (Neem) Oil.

Sunburn Alert: This product contains an alpha hydroxy acid (AHA) that may increase your skin's sensitivity to the sun and particularly the possibility of sunburn. Use a sunscreen, wear protective clothing, and limit sun exposure while using this product and for a week afterwards.

*Here is a photo I took, I added a little more on my face so you can get a good look at the texture and true pumpkin color.

Overall, I would purchase the full size because it has become a staple in my skincare routine.

Beauty Blender Dupe!!!

I have been on the hunt for a Beauty Blender dupe - (I'm positive, I'm not alone on this!) I have tried a few but some just did not withstand the test. They were either too dense or absorbed the product instead of applying it to my face. I recently went into TJ Maxx and low and behold, there was another blending sponge screaming to be tested.

They carry the Cynthia Rowley Precision Blending Sponge. They even had a few different colors to choose from.

On the side of the box reads;
  • Latex Free
  • For a Flawless, Airbrushed Look
  • Hypoallergenic
The shape of the sponge is great, almost exact to the Beauty Blender.

(I used it today, so please excuse the makeup)

I have used this for a month and I must say, I love it! I use it with my BB Cream, which seems more like a foundation to me. I apply the cream and bounce it around, covering my entire face and the results are flawless. I also blend in my concealer with the the narrow end and it glides through the process effortlessly. The texture of the sponge is soft and suede like. The sponge also expands when you wet it as directed.

I really couldn't believe the price either! You get so much quality for a tiny investment.

I also wanted to make a comment on the packaging, it's simple yet eye catching. I really like the pop of color.

Finally, if you decide to pick one up. Follow the directions and you will love it as well. I have heard that others have tried using the sponge dry and it does not give you the effect that you're seeking.

Maybelline: Baby Lips Electro

The Maybelline Baby Lips Electro line is another win for me. They provide a sheer tint and the ones that I've tried even leave a lip stain. They all have a light-fruity scent and I've purchased the most pigmented of the line (Please see swatches below). I would have to add that the only down side is that they do not wear long but as a light lip tint balm, what do we really expect...?

Remember that results may vary due to how pigmented your lips already are, so you may have a really sheer tint to a slightly darker sheer finish. I also wanted to mention that the formula is not sticky at all.

Here is the claim from Maybelline:

Why You'll Love It

  • Electric color pigments give your lips a sheer jolt of neon color
  • Protects and moisturizes for a full 8 hours
  • In 6 New Tinted Shades
  • Visibly renewed lips in 1 week*
    • 88% Had Smoother Lips*
    • 82% Had Less Dry Lips*
    • 70% Had More Supple Lips*
    • 83% Had Better-Looking Lips*

*Based on panelists’ self-evaluation after 1 week
When I used the product for 2 weeks, I would have to agree that these are the results I got. I had dry lips and the Baby Lips balm did help that issue a lot! I try a lot of lip products and this has been one of my top 3 go to products.

Milani' "Luminoso" Comparable to Nars "Orgasm"

If you haven't tried Milani' Luminoso blush, please stop what you are doing and go grab it! It's such a beautiful shade. The swatch does it no justice and it's so smooth. It's a baked blush, so it's highly pigmented and just gorgeous. In my opinion, all skin tones would benefit from the peachy-pink/gold undertones shade. It runs under $10 and comes with a mirror and brush. I tend to use my own brushes but this would be great for an "on the go" touch up.

If you do not want to splurge on Nars "Orgasm" - I really think you'll be happy with Luminoso and you cannot beat the price point.
